Colourful Home Makeover

Melissa came to me when she wanted to decorate her entire townhome. She had recently moved to Ottawa and wanted someone to create a cozy space for her to enjoy in her down time.

I was inspired by Melissa’s great personality and her love of colour. By keeping the larger pieces neutral I was able to inject a ton of colour and pattern in the accent pieces. Check out the makeover below!

The great room is seen from the front door and needed to set the tone for the feel of the house.

The fireplace wall and dining room wall were painted in a dark grey blue, grounding the open space.

Cozy Four Season Sunroom

I was approached by Michelle and Eric when they were at the beginning stage of planing their sunroom addition. The purpose of the addition was to create a mudroom, sitting area, dining area and main floor laundry room for their family.

I was inspired by the look and feel of the beautiful renovation they did in their kitchen and dining room. They have great style! It’s comfortable, texture filled and family friendly.

Art Inspired Small Space – Before and After

Carol contacted because she wanted to get a head start in decorating her new apartment. It wasn’t going to be ready for a year. She was excited to be downsizing, but also a little anxious. Carol really wanted her space to be cozy, personalized and functional and didn’t know where to start.

During our consultation I discovered that she is a fantastic artist, and I was inspired by all the colours and textures in her original art and photography.

As you can see from the before picture of the model unit of her apartment, we had a clean slate to work with. My goal was to give a neutral, yet texture-filled backdrop for a gallery wall of all of her favourite pieces. I also wanted to maximize every inch in her space by using some clever storage solutions.

After doing a floor plan, I determined what pieces were needed to create a cozy conversation area that also served as a place for knitting and television viewing.

Inspiring Office Space: Before and After

I’m so excited to finally be posting photos of one of my favourite projects last year! Initiate is a full-service graphic design agency located in the West End. Prior to moving into this space, the team were working out of their homes and occasionally meeting up at coffee shops. They found they needed a space where they could all be together to collaborate and easily meet with clients.

After almost a year in the space they have grown to a five person team, and business is booming. The fresh colours and casual atmosphere provide an awesome place to be inspired. I love how they have added their own personal touches with artwork and accessories. It was such a pleasure working with these folks and I wish them much success!

Dreamy Drapery: Before and After

I recently designed a stunning window treatment that combined both style and function for my absolutely wonderful clients. My inspiration for the fabric choices came from the lovely wallpaper installed behind their bed. During the initial consultation, they told me that they wanted as close to complete black out as possible. My treatment combined a padded cornice to minimize light and fully functioning black out drapery panels. I added a contrasting band to the inside of the panels so they could easily find the openings for the bay window panels.

As you can see from the following before picture, they were ready for something new!

Easy steps to winterize your entrance way

Creating a functional and inviting entrance way is key to surviving our Canadian winters. Here are some ways that I get organized for the season:

  1. Clear out bins and donate/recycle items that are well loved or the kids have outgrown
  2. Fill bins with new winter gear if needed
  3. Clean summer shoes and store them in the basement for the winter
  4. Change my candle to a wintery scent (I love cinnamon!)
  5. Get some fresh branches for my antique vases
  6. Place a plastic mat on floor next to console and fill with winter boots
  7. Rotate summer jackets to another closet and inspect winter coats

Even the smallest space can be stylish and functional. Here is a mood board for a sweet little entryway that will welcome you home every day!

How do you get ready for winter?
