Goals for 2016

At this time of year (like most of us) I always get inspired to reflect on the past year and look ahead to the new. Although I have to admit I feel that if I don’t accomplish everything in the first month I’m going to lose my momentum. I have to work on that! I did a bit of soul searching and I came up with a vision of how I would like the next year to look professionally and personally.

I also reviewed last years goals and I am quite proud of what I have accomplished and I’m very much looking forward to what the next year has in store with some hard work and dedication. Writing these down and sharing them is really for my own benefit, however I hope it inspires you to write down your goals as well!

Blissful Bedrooms

My love of decorating began at an early age. I redecorated my bedroom (over and over again) throughout my childhood. I sketched floor plans and pasted clippings from the Sears catalogue all over my journals. I loved how changing my room would force me to look at my possessions and decide which items made me happiest. Full disclosure – that did include kitten posters and an extensive dog statue collection.

The anatomy of our gallery wall

One of my favourite things in our home is the gallery wall in our dining room. It certainly gets a lot of attention! When we moved into our new home 5 years ago (that flew by!) we had a fair amount of framed art that we had collected from a variety of sources. I loved the idea of grouping it all together to balance out our space and showcase some great family shots.

Our dining room sits across from our open concept kitchen that boasts all glass uppers and a fairly busy glass tile backsplash. I don’t recommend accent walls often, but in this case it works. We needed to create a heavy background for all the different frames to sit on.

How to decorate with plants

We finally put away our tree and all the accompanying decorations, and now I’m looking around our home and feeling like I need to add some life to it. Bring on the plants! Now, anyone who knows me, knows that I do not have a green thumb. However, friends of ours gave us a money tree when we moved in 5 years ago, and somehow it is magically thriving. I love what it adds to our home and I’m ready for more! A bonus is that plants also increase the air quality in the home, which is very important when the windows are shut for months on end.

Goals for 2015

I am sitting here, recovering from eating way too many cookies, listening to the boys playing nicely together (this is a treat!) and thinking about what my goals are for this new year. I’ve had some time to reflect on where I want to go professionally and personally and I would like to put it in writing to keep me on track. I’m a huge believer in putting things out into the universe – so here it goes!

It’s Christmas time!

I love this time of year! I find myself staying up later because our living room is so cozy. We keep things fairly simple around here. We have a nice tree we take out every year and we deck it out with memory-filled ornaments. It’s not a designer tree by any means but I love seeing the kids (husband included), discover their favourite ornaments every year.
