That was the case with one of my most recent completed projects. This lovely couple had a beautiful home, but they felt there was something missing. When you first walked in the front door, there was nothing to stop your eye from going right to the back of their house. My solution was to add a console table and a coordinating buffet lamp to the front hall, and to lower their existing art. All this creates a nice vignette when you first enter the home. An added bonus is that it also gives them a landing pad to drop their keys and mail. Adding a lamp by the front door is one of my favourite tricks. It extends your living space in the evening while keeping the lighting cozy and inviting.
My clients were also having a hard time finding a piece of art to hang over their sofa, and they found their conversation area lacked balance. I was able to find a beautiful framed print that repeated the colours in their existing drapery. Then I repeated that colour on a comfortable custom slipper chair. I also replaced their lampshades and brought in a couple of richly textured throw cushions to complete the transformation.
My clients were thrilled with the changes! Here’s what they had to say:
Thanks very much for the transformation. We are very pleased! You were able to accomplish in a short amount of time what we couldn’t in over six years. We will certainly contact you if we need help with anything else. – The Mason’s
