Lisa and I met after she called me in to go over the updates she would like to do in her home. She was very excited to have someone guide her on where to start. Lisa’s current bathrooms were not working for her or her sons, and we determined that these often-used rooms would be the best place to start. I quickly determined her main concerns: taller vanities, easy-to-clean surfaces, restful space, better organization, and a soaker tub.
I’m so excited to finally be posting photos of one of my favourite projects last year! Initiate is a full-service graphic design agency located in the West End. Prior to moving into this space, the team were working out of their homes and occasionally meeting up at coffee shops. They found they needed a space where they could all be together to collaborate and easily meet with clients.
After almost a year in the space they have grown to a five person team, and business is booming. The fresh colours and casual atmosphere provide an awesome place to be inspired. I love how they have added their own personal touches with artwork and accessories. It was such a pleasure working with these folks and I wish them much success!
I had the pleasure of helping my Mom and Stepdad with a complete renovation of the main floor of their 50s home. My grandfather built it in 1956. He was a master carpenter and took great pride in designing and building a beautiful and functional home for his family. My Mom moved back into her family home 6 years ago, and while the home functioned wonderfully, it was certainly in need of some updating. We wanted to create an open space for them to entertain family and grandkids with ease, and use a classic palette to breathe some life into the space. Following are some pretty stunning before and after pics!
I will concentrate on the kitchen in this post and I will share their main bathroom transformation in the coming weeks.
That was the case with one of my most recent completed projects. This lovely couple had a beautiful home, but they felt there was something missing. When you first walked in the front door, there was nothing to stop your eye from going right to the back of their house. My solution was to add a console table and a coordinating buffet lamp to the front hall, and to lower their existing art. All this creates a nice vignette when you first enter the home. An added bonus is that it also gives them a landing pad to drop their keys and mail. Adding a lamp by the front door is one of my favourite tricks. It extends your living space in the evening while keeping the lighting cozy and inviting.
I trust everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving. We sure did! I have so much to be thankful for – family, friends, beautiful weather, an awesome job, pumpkin pie :)
When the nice fall weather is here it’s easy to be outside appreciating the outdoors. I don’t know about you though, but I love hibernating on the rainy days just as much, catching up on a book or playing Go Fish with the kids.
As the weather gets colder we tend to spend more time inside, and now is the time to get your place all cozy for those drearier months. With the days getting shorter, we also need great lighting for function as well as enveloping your space in warmth and comfort… but that’s a whole other post.
Today I want to share with you a beautiful and calming colour scheme that I put together for a client a few months ago. They have a stunning new home that has a very modern aesthetic, and had already made some great decisions that I was able to use to come up with a scheme. Their front door was a rich blue and their floor was going to be a natural hickory. They had showed me a lot of fun, bold choices as well, such as dark charcoal tile in the ensuite and a cobalt blue sink in the main bathroom.
I know, ridiculous title. I’m serious, though. I don’t buy anything unless I run it by my shower curtain. When we bought our house a few years ago, I had the opportunity to choose all of our finishes and the budget to buy some new pieces. I fell in love with this shower curtain! I used to joke with hubby that I don’t need fancy jewelry, just buy me my nice shower curtain. What I loved about it is that it contained all of the colours I wanted to bring into our home. I had to have it!
