Luxurious Bedroom Retreat – Before and After

I’m so excited to share this beautiful transformation with you! My clients really wanted a luxurious bedroom retreat in their lovely home.

Their bedroom was functional, however it wasn’t the retreat they wanted.

A big transformation was achieved even though we kept the existing bed and nightstands. The wall colour is Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue, which is a beautiful blue green. To give the room a more traditional feel, we added picture rail moulding to the drywall and painted it out in the trim colour.

Easy steps to winterize your entrance way

Creating a functional and inviting entrance way is key to surviving our Canadian winters. Here are some ways that I get organized for the season:

  1. Clear out bins and donate/recycle items that are well loved or the kids have outgrown
  2. Fill bins with new winter gear if needed
  3. Clean summer shoes and store them in the basement for the winter
  4. Change my candle to a wintery scent (I love cinnamon!)
  5. Get some fresh branches for my antique vases
  6. Place a plastic mat on floor next to console and fill with winter boots
  7. Rotate summer jackets to another closet and inspect winter coats

Even the smallest space can be stylish and functional. Here is a mood board for a sweet little entryway that will welcome you home every day!

How do you get ready for winter?

Small changes, big impact!

That was the case with one of my most recent completed projects. This lovely couple had a beautiful home, but they felt there was something missing. When you first walked in the front door, there was nothing to stop your eye from going right to the back of their house. My solution was to add a console table and a coordinating buffet lamp to the front hall, and to lower their existing art. All this creates a nice vignette when you first enter the home. An added bonus is that it also gives them a landing pad to drop their keys and mail. Adding a lamp by the front door is one of my favourite tricks. It extends your living space in the evening while keeping the lighting cozy and inviting.

Etsy: Made in Canada – Ottawa

I went to the Etsy: Made in Canada show last Saturday and I was blown away by the quality of the hand made goods! I was in designer heaven! I went with a dear friend, her daughter and her mom. We spent most of the time apart though as I couldn’t help but chat with the artists.

Following are the booths I happened to be most drawn to, but after looking at the curated list of all the vendors I know I missed a lot. I can’t wait to add a bunch of items to my wish list!
